A Mullingar based haulier is to appear in court after he was stopped by Gardai at a checkpoint proporting to be driving a V8 Scania truck when in actual fact it was a Renault.
Mr. Brendan Reilly, aged 10, of BR Transport, was stopped on Friday of last week, outside Mullingar, driving the Renault which he had made a blatant attempt to disguise
by placing purple ribbons around the cab. When instructed by Gardai he let the window down and was making V8 engine sounds with his lips. He was immediately arrested and brought to the station where he fully confessed to the offenses.
The Garda Sargent has issued a statement stating that "We cannot allow people think that they can do what they like by driving around in Renaults and causing distress to other law abiding Scania drivers".
Mr Reilly will appear in court within the next week where he may be facing a custodial sentence or even the possibility of the death penalty.
