Recently it was reported that Mariano's, a Wisconsin based grocery retailer, that's popular in the Chicago would venture into NW Indiana by purchasing numerous Strack's locations and converting them into Mariano's.
When contacted Bob Mariano, the founder and CEO of Mariano's, stated "Kroger, our parent company, is buying the stores and converting them to basic Kroger grocery stores since Indiana people are basic and don't deserve something as nice as a Mariano's."
He further commented, "Can you really picture some Indiana hillbilly shopping somewhere as refined as my Mariano's chain? They probably can't tell good organic produce from stuff you'd find in a dumpster".
