Trader Joe's, a privately held chain of neighborhood grocery stores based in Monrovia, California announced that they would be building a store in downtown Hobart, Indiana. “We get a lot of requests for new stores, but the Hobart City Council team led by Lino Maggio put together a competitive package”, said Les Kistler, the development manager for Trader Joe’s. While Hobart has a slightly lower disposable income than traditional Trader Joe’s areas, the combination of a vibrant downtown and a low cost of living makes it a good match for Trader Joe’s. The property has been acquired, and conversion should be complete by Summer 2018.
