Dr. Lucfanio of the University of Bologna, Italy has presented a paper to the International association of climatologists in Boston, USA. His study conducted throughout the years 2002-2009 highlighted the significant carbon footprint of recycling compared to virgin material use. Initially his study was started with the intent of enumerating the positive impacts of recycling; his team was stunned to see their conclusions found errant. The study concluded that virgin material use reduced carbon emissions by 92 compared to recycling when taking carbon entrapment into consideration. Dr Lucfianio summarized his presentation with the statement that "Oceanic dumping of materials was the most effective way to reduce carbon footprint with distributed sequestering... most nations should consider eliminating landfill and incineration as waste disposal methods. By dumping all waste wholesale into the Ocean it could reduce global warming effects by 32 per annum. Further, the reduction in methane production by eliminating all whale populations could offset the methane production of 750,000 hamburger cow equivalents. This would significantly benefit investors in carbon trading sectors."
