In what's been labelled a blast from the past and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 1947 All-Ireland final in The Polo Grounds in New York , GAA officials announced this morning that the 2017 Football Final will take place Stateside .
The 1947 victors , Cavan , made history winning the only final played outside of Ireland . This looks set to change as a source commented that both the recent Rugby success combined with the anticipated crowds of both Irish and Irish Americans who have lobbied for years to witness our national game played on an international stage .
' It is not entirely fair to say the rugby influenced our decision as it has been years in the pipeline and many delighted GAA fans will now get the opportunity to watch our game as well as opening it up to sportsfans based in the US ' the source informed us .
