Rian Johnson, the director of Star Wars Episode XIII, has confirmed on Twitter that R2D2 has the ability to command the force! The tweet was deleted quickly after releasing the information, but not before it had 282 reshares and 1.2k likes! According to him, R2 has been using the Force throughout the series, but has yet to unveil this power to anyone else. That is, until the upcoming episode. R2D2 is said to unleash his power iin a universe altering scene at some point in the new movie, but what point is that? There can only be speculation at this point, but it's one of the most exciting spoilers to date!
There were other droids in the EU that were said to command the force. The most known example was the R2 unit that detonated his own motivator using the Force in Episode IV: A New Hope in order to make sure R2D2 could complete his mission to deliver Princess Leia's distress call and Death Star plans to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
