In Clearwater Florida, the unlawful feeding of alligators is a second-degree misdemeanor. According to ABC News, the reason why Wallace & Kenny Weatherholt's case doesn't fall under the "unfortunate accident" defense, turns out the two 26 year-old men were dangling fish in front of the 9-foot gator.
Then Wallace lured the gator over with the fish, before placing his hand on the surface of the water. We're sure he wasn't expecting to have the appendage bitten off as well.

The alligator was found and euthanized. Wallace Weatherholt's hand was also recovered, but it could not be reattached. And to top it off, Both men had to pay $1,000 in bail money. The now one-handed man & Kenny are set to be back in court on August 22. At the end of the day the two men are very thankful that CPR Certified Jeffrey Tandberg (Clearwater resident) was there to stop the bleeding which saved Wallace's life.
