As "Record Store Day" came and went, vinyl loving listeners lined up out the door to grab some fresh wax and their favorite music haunts. Many an avid Vinyl spinner were completely unaware that some of their latest titles were mastered using MP3 digital files as the source to which the LP was cut with.

For a quick explanation of what "cutting a record" is all about, it is the process in which the master record called a "dub plate" is placed on a cutting lathe and the music is impressed onto the disk. The disk is then cast to make the "negative" and then cast again to make the "positive" in which then subsequent pressings are made from. The first pressing is then listened to for flaws. If there is any mistake in the sound of the playback, then you have to start over.

The horror was discovered that the labels reissuing 90's hipster favorite reissues were using MP3 files as the master recordings for the new LP's! Why is this bad?

Our correspondent Phil Shmidtz interviewed Jake Stake, an avid self proclaimed audiophile about how he knew and he said, "Yeah, i couldn't believe what i was hearing! It sounded just like 128kps digital file, sounding all thin and having this weird compression sound and tinny, glassy, like shimmering sound in the high end indicative of being a low bit rate MP3. I could just tell, and i am pissed!

Most people cannot even tell the difference, but Jake informed us here at Breakingnews that MP3's have a unique sound which are usually just good enough for mobile and slightly less than radio quality play, and that vinyl he claims is a "hi-def" format that retains the dynamics and resolution of the original master tape or digital recording that you can literally hear the musicians in the studio as if you were there. Jake must have great hearing because many other people had no idea until we went to other record stores and informed them.

We were then witness to a lot of cursing and people being upset because most new LP's were costing well above the $20 range. People were wanting their money back and the record store was like, "all sales final, asshole!" People were PISSED!

Needless to say, this revelation will soon have lasting ramifications in the recording industry, and once the artists represented catch wind of this, we believe they will be making statements and maneuvering their business away from these shady labels that create cheap releases and reap the profits off the backs of the artists using cheap or actually stolen digital files to create a huge profit in the hip vinyl scene. Stay tuned as we see how this "pans and fades" out.
