Northwest Indiana Grocer Admits It is "Just Plain Racist"

A spokesperson for a local grocery chain announced today that the Indiana-based grocery chain is "just plain racist." The spokesperson cited the company's long-standing practice of transferring unsold, expired groceries--particularly rotten fruit and vegetables--to stores it owned in majority-minority neighborhoods. This included the Lock Market in Gary, since sold.
"We really didn't care about the predominantly African-American communities," the spokesperson continued. "We wanted to operate in white areas. For a time, we kept stores open in black neighborhoods to have a place to sell otherwise expired foods."
Asked about the fact that many older African-American communities have more disposable income than suburban communities where families spend large sums for McMansions, the spokesman stated: "Let me be clear. We were not making color-blind decisions. No amount of green can cancel out black, and we wanted nothing to do with the latter."
The chain has, fortunately, sold and its stores will be shuttered.
