Today is a big day for the Wilson county basketball community. Today the basketball committee will select its picks for the 22nd annual All-Star game that will take place in just a couple weeks. We all know big time players such as Aaron Rountree and and newly eligible Jalen Harris a YouTube sensation will headline the event as the top picks, but what about the newer selections ? In an interview with Coach Micheal Willingham (one of the committee members) he was asked about the newer faces that were selected. " there were a lot of people that we looked at and probably should have been selected based on pure talent. But that's not what we're looking for, we're looking for talented young men with good attitudes who love the game just as much as we do. With that being said some of the newly selected players that will make their first appearance will be Jermaine Crowder, Steven Grams, Aden Coley and Mikal Battle.
Jermaine Crowder a former Fike High school standout who currently plays at Central Ohio University he's 6'5 has the ability to push the rock and dish his game reminds me of Magic Johnson a bigger guard that can make plays.
Steven Grams is special, a 6'9 kid that is still growing with a soft touch down in the paint. He's the only select that is still in high school, so I know that he will be excited to play in this years game.
Aden Coley a former Greenfield school star is a shade under 7 foot. He's currently enrolled at louisburg college and is a force downlow. Even though he redshirted this season expect to hear big things about Aden next year.
Mikal Battle a former Beddingfield High School player is making his debut in the All-Star game as well. His most current school Penn State Wilkes Barre. He's a 5'11 point guard that can literally shoot one step pass half court, he will shoot the light out the gym if you leave them on. His ability off the pick and roll as to be his most dangerous weapon.
We're excited about this years game last year was a success and this year will be nothing different. We had a record setting 3500 people at last years event this year we want 5000.
