Union County (KY)
The Union County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that there will be 25 DUI checkpoints over the July 1st weekend throughout Union County. With the help of Kentucky State Police (Henderson Post) and local law enforcement, the goal is to eliminate impaired drivers that are over the legal limit of .08 BAC (blood alcohol content).

"We would like to create a fortress around Union County - with 25 DUI checkpoints at every possible entry. No one gets in and no one leaves if they have been drinking." said Union County Emergency Management (UCEM). This effort is due in part to the Union County Court House needing additional funding in light of recent expenditure issues. "We hope to make $15,000 to $20,000 in fines over these few days" said Mrs. Green from the Finance Committee. In addition to checking for DUI's, the officers will also be looking for illegal drugs with the help of several K9 officers from the surrounding areas as well as anyone who has expired registration or no insurance.

When asked how they plan to make room for the arrested, UCEM stated that the Hometown Inn had been placed on reserve in the event they need the room. "You know, we can spend $70 on a room for 4 people but make $900 in fines on the deal so it's a win-win." If the goal is reached (61 DUI's is the goal set by the group), local Judges are expected to do pre-trial conferences in the hotel rooms to ensure everyone can get back to their Holiday Weekend Festivities as quickly as possible.
