Indiana State Governor Eric Holcomb has left many fire dancing enthusiasts red hot. After setting on his desk for the maximum 14 days before exercising a "pocket veto", Eric Holcomb signed into law Senat Bill 96 outlawing the act of slinging objects with pyrotechnics indoors and public places across the State of Indiana. Typically laws do not take effect until the following bi-ennium - in this case January 1, Governor Holcomb exercised a rarely used trigger that makes the law effective immediately upon signing due to safety reasons. "I understand I may have upset the apple cart going into the Fourth of July holiday, but the safety of Hoosiers is paramount and at the urging of our fine law enforcement community I exercised my statutory right to execute Andy's Law effective immediately," Holcomb stated through a press release. The law has been affectionately nicknamed Andy's Law in honor of a 4 year old boy Andy Cashner from Munster who received third degree burns after he was splashed with fire accelerant from a fire dancing prop at St. Michael's parish Sunmerfest in August 2016. There has been a rash of injuries and house fires reported from the following that has gained in popularity over the past several years. "Of course I am dissapppinted," says Erica Thompson of Muncie who was performing without the use of fire on a street corner at Ball State University. "It was fun while it lasted, I made a lot of good friends in the fire dancing community. But we'll find a new hobby." The Associated Press contributed to this story.
