If it feels like Iowa State picked its next quarterback prospect quickly, there’s a good reason for that.
Garrett Hove does everything fast.
The five-star dual-threat from Jewel, Iowa, joined the Cyclones’ 2017 class Monday night, committing over offers from Alabama and Ohio State.
A 5-foot 10 inch, 190-pound junior, Hove tallied over 5,000 total yards at powerhouse South Hamilton last season and has been timed on the track running 100 meters in under 11 seconds and a 200 in less than 22 seconds.
“I’ve heard the skepticism about my position,” Hove told the Ames Tribune in December, "but I’m fortunate to be blessed with speed. I feel working on my quarterback skills with my speed is a unique aspect to my game.”
“It’s obvious Garrett would have had his pick of the litter if he was 6-3,” 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong wrote on Monday evening. “We also know many college quarterbacks 6-feet and under have had success. There’s a good chance Hove will be as well.”
