The Florida Legislature voted to replace the mocking bird as the State Bird of Florida.
Even though the vote was close, it passed by a vote of 65 to 47.
One of the legislators speaking on the condition of anonymity stated the Buzzard isn't necessarily a noble bird, but it performs a necessary and thankless job of removing dead and dying animals off the highways and roads.
