With patio season in full swing, city officials are planning a massive sweep of the hospitality industry in Hamilton. Beginning tomorrow, and continuing throughout the summer, the city will be sending out teams of Inspectors to not only make sure that all employees are smart serve and safe food handling certified, but that they are working legally.
"There has been a large number of labour board cases received in the past year where servers were not only uncertified, but working off of the books" said Ivan Tafuk, Ministry of labour, "Lots of problems can arise from these types of scenarios. Regulations are in place for the safety of the employees, employers, and the general public."
Large fines and possible loss of business licenses expected, as well as termination of employment and possible fines for the employees themselves.
