West Virginia Governor, Jim Justice, announced yesterday that the legal drinking age will be raised to 25 on July 27th, 2017.
"The reason for this bill is to eliminate the increase of drunk drivers and keep young adults safe. The statistics show that 89 of WV DUIs are from ages 19-23." Gov. Justice concluded in his recent interview with WBOY.
The law will go straight into effect on July 27th, 2017 and anybody that turned 21 years old after January 1st, 2017, will need to abide by the 25 year old drinking age law immediately.
Parkersburg, WV Vandevander Middle School principal Darlene Murphy said she supports the new law changes. "I was a party animal back in my day and had this law been in place there could have been less unnecessary reproduction. I am glad to see our elected official take this stance and keep our kids safe." Check out WBOY for more information.
