August 1, 2017 - As news reports around the country detailed the value of old Pyrex dishes, Internet sharks began to surface. In order to capitalize on this news trend, a Facebook group was created to "raffle" off these expensive dishes. The premise of this scam is simple: a person posts a picture of a dish and unsuspecting collectors buy chances to win the dish. It's pretty much gambling for Dishes. The seller of the dish often doubles or even triples their investment in a dish while many slot buyers come up empty handed.
Our reporters spoke to one collector who became enthralled by the Facebook sensation. (We've changed the names of our sources to protect their identity). "Donna Shmameron" says that she began buying slots for fun, but then her hobby turned dark. Donna used her feminine wiles to coerce her husband into turning over his PayPal account information. What happens next is truly sad. Donna purchased slots in several raffles for dishes she didn't even need. Soon she had spent all her family's savings. Her young son "Mack" now sings show tunes on the street corner for money for basic necessities.
We also learned of another participant "Cathy Notsogood" who bullied other participants into paying for their slots. Cathy would make posts shaming others into quickly paying. "Angelo Hell" said she was sleeping one night, only to be awaken by FB notifications. When she checked the notifications, Angelo found out that Cathy was calling her out on Facebook for not paying in the first milliseconds that the chances were sold out. Angelo states that she was embarrassed and felt sad. She's now being treated for trauma related psychosis and is seeking compensation for her damages.
For sellers such as "Missy Beeflin", the opportunity is too good to pass up. Missy claims she's made thousands in under a week selling decaled dishes to unsuspecting collectors. Police are currently investigating Beeflin and her alleged cohort, "Eric Estrada".
Why is this raffle so popular you might ask. It seems that Suzanne Garlitz (her name has not been changed) has been encouraging people to play the chances. Garlitz threatens people with poisoned Kool-aid if they don't participate. Many of you might remember Garlitz from a mob sting that went down in 1998. After a stint in Federal lockup, it looks as if Garlitz has found a new scheme.
Upstanding legal genius Jana Rucker warns people that raffles are very chancy and my not be legal in your state. Rucker encourages others to look at their loca laws before engaging in any raffles. Rucker says because she herself is a collector, she will represent anyone who has been taken advantage of in these Pyrex raffles for only 45 commission.
