New York - The United Nations Council for Cutlery Standards voted unanimously on Friday to enforce the mandate relating to the complete abolishment of spoons by April 2020.
The head of the UN Council, Francisco Furca, said on Thursday that the rise in the usage of spoons has been shown to directly correlate with the observed rise in global sea levels over the past 50 years.
The council's resolution authorised the phasing of spoon production across various nations, with alternative cutlery options being made available to those in heavily spoon-dependent regions.
Furca also stated that the UN Council will be recommending a large-scale increase in spork production to assist with the transition period.
