ROCKFORD — Police detectives suspect the former Larry's liquor that burned down this week was the site of a marijuana growing operation.
Rockford Police Department Deputy Chief David Hopkins said police had gotten a tip that someone was growing marijuana inside the commercial building.
There was nothing to substantiate the tip until the fire this week.
“We were working on it and then the fire occurred,” Hopkins said. “Up until that point, there was no indication there was anything going on there.”
No arrests have been made.
