During its upfront presentation, AMC Networks has announced that AMC, the cable channel best known for "The Walking Dead", "Breaking Bad", and as well as other outstanding groundbreaking original shows will be renamed as simply 'The A' and will further reformat itself as a general entertainment channel.

Josh Sapan, an executive of AMC Networks said that renaming the cable network "is a smart move, mostly to avoid confusion with the iconic AMC Theatres chain, but at the same time, letting our viewers know that it's evolving". Its new logo will be comprised of the lowercase 'a' (from the current AMC logo) semi-enclosed in a circle, with 'THE' to the left of 'a' and the tagline, "TV With Attitude".

But the name, logo, and taglines are not the only things new. In addition to their original programming, they recently acquired reruns of "The Sopranos", "The O.C.", "Lost", "Ray Donovan", "Private Practice", "24", "Arliss", "Under the Dome", "Heroes", "1000 Ways To Die", "Prison Break", "Nurse Jackie", "Boston Legal", and "Operation Repo"; all of which will be scheduled to air starting Fall 2018 with some of the aforementioned shows airing uncensored in the late night hours. While movies are still part of the channel's schedule, they will be scaled back mostly to Friday nights and weekends.

It is unknown if other channels in AMC Networks' portfolio (including international versions of AMC through its International division) or the parent company will be renamed to follow suit.
