Black Lives Matter leaders along with support from United Negros Against White Adjectives have petitioned networks to stop using the phrase "Black Ice" when referring to ice conditions in their reporting of weather. "To refer to ice as black, in a negative connotation is simply and blatantly racist!", says Jamal Muhammed Siam, a 20 year member of the U.N.A.W.A. "We call then black adjectives or blackjectives, meaning using the color black to demean or repress. Other examples are black licorice, black balled, black eye or blackout. What is wrong with just calling it "clear ice", which actually is what it is?" B.L.M. is calling on all African Americans to rise up and take a stand against racist network's like the Weather Channel and local meteorological news segments and not watch any weather forecasts until the racist language changes. "We will not be defined as a color, or lack thereof!"
