New York Yankees General Manager announced today that they had just completed a deal with the Astros to acquire Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Lance McCullers Jr., George Springer, and Alex Bregman. The Yankees will send the Astros ace pitcher Masahiro Tanaka and $4.3 billion.
Tanaka is arguably the best pitcher in the league, when he is healthy and will lead a rotation that is now one of the leagues best. He will be an upgrade to McCullers. However, it is hard to see Houston being able to replace what they lost in four core players. Who's parting undeniably changes their indentity.
As for New York. It seems that they wish to prove that you can, in fact, buy a champion. From how their team looks now. My guess the answer will be yes. Going rate, around $5 billion.
