President Trump’s latest executive order should have the citizens of Floyd County, Virginia excited, since it could create dozens of well-paying construction jobs for a new radioactive waste containment center in the rural Southwest Virginia county. Under the adjacent order issued from the Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke, construction on the spent uranium facility will begin in early 2018. The properties were purchased from American Electric Power, and its regional subsidiary, Appalachian Power. President Trump tweeted, “This will be the biggest largest safest facility. Really huge. Obama was too scared of the special interest groups... /...to invest in radioactive jobs in Virginia. But it will be really safe. Big jobs. Big jobs trust me.”
