It is reported that Mayor Gary Christenson will step down and throw his hat into the ring vying for the city's CFO/Treasurer post. Insiders say that Christenson wants to return to his financial roots and give the Council a "clear choice" which would help end the stalemate surrounding the position. Christenson served as the Budget Director for the Middlesex Sheriff's Office and also worked at the Statehouse in Ways and Mean as a budget analyst.
The City Council has been embroiled in a heated debate during a protracted selection process which has seen Neil Kinnon emerge as the front runner. Kinnon resigned his post as a powerful City Councillor from Ward Six. Kinnon also has his own pedigree as a finance guru. In the eyes of many on the council Kinnon would have the edge, having worked in both the private and public sectors. Christenson has been on the public dole for his entire career.
Christenson will be sacrificing his political future and expending the last of his political capital to "save the city" from selecting either Kinnon his long time nemesis or former MBTA chief financial officer Jonathan Davis.
