President Donald Trump, when asked by a reporter from MSNBC if the White House Thanksgiving Dinner featured vegan or vegetarian options for food, responded by attacking vegans and vegetarians and calling them "whiners". The full exchange is recorded below.
MSNBC Reporter LaniQua Moss: "Mr. President, did the White House Thanksgiving Dinner feature dining options for those who are vegetarian or vegan?"
President Trump: "No..no in my White House we eat meat. We eat meat. We eat Turkey on Thanksgiving because its tradition. So many people are now whining about how Thanksgiving is mean for the turkeys because we kill them and eat them. We have killed turkeys and other animals for thousands and thousands of years before and only now are you getting people saying oh this is bad. They are just whining."
Moss: "So you're saying-"
Trump: "Look, I'm sure there are people who are allergic to meat and I get that. But all of those people who are vegan are just people, probably corrupted by the fake news media, into saying meat is bad for them and killing animals is wrong. It's un-American. You know who else doesn't eat meat? Radical Muslims. They don't eat pork. They are anti-farmer and don't care about our wonderful farmers and agriculture."
When pressed further for additional comments related to his unprovoked attacks on vegans and vegetarians, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to respond, saying "The president stands by his comments."
