As a result of the December School Board Meeting, the Caldwell School District will be implementing new changes to the dress code beginning in January. Board and district officials are concerned with the current violations of dress code policies and have chosen Jefferson Middle School as the first pilot program for the district. Students at Jefferson will be the first to wear school issued clothing. "We will no longer have to concern our already overburdened teachers with trying to figure out what is acceptable," stated Principal Meghan Wonderlich. "We feel this move is going to make things easier for our teachers, students, and ultimately, the district. We have studied the numbers, and have realized just how much of our energy enforcing the old dress code has taken. Teachers will be able to spend more of their valuable time actually educating the kids," Wonderlich added.
The new policy will begin on January 8th, where students will be given their choice of two clothing outfits, including dresses in traditional school colors for females, and white shirts, blue ties, and navy slacks for the males. The program is being funded by the National Teacher's Union in an attempt to further student learning.
