Delaware Bracing For Record Breaking Snow

Dec 11, 2017 Newark, DE - Delaware Division of Transportation will have its hands full this weekend if weather projections are correct. Several models have a Nor'Easter moving into the Delaware region late Friday night and lasting up until Sunday evening.

Early predictions is anywhere between 12"-36" of snow. "We don't have a specific amount yet. We just know its going to come down hard and fast." said Del Dot spokesman Harold Schumacher. "We don't know how bad it will affect traffic until is arrives. We just know we aren't equipped for what's in store" Schumacher says.

This storm has the potential to break a 115 year old record set in 1902 of 14" of snowfall in 36 hours. Chief Meteorologist Wendy Speakman says "The snow is coming. That we do know. It's very rare to see significant snowfall in December." Delaware averages .2" of snow per December dating back to 1899.

This will be the second snow storm to hit the state this year.
