Major snowstorm to hit Northeast this weekend

The brewing storm will likely dump anywhere from 5 to 8 inches of snow on the city and even more in other parts of the Northeast.
“It’s too early to say for sure right now, but there is potential for significant snow Friday into Saturday,” said David Stark, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service stationed in Long Island.
“The probability is increasing, even though there’s a lot of things that can change between now and then,” Stark added.
Meteorologists are tracking a storm that’s still on the west coast but moving inland fast.
It’s mixing with a cold front that has dropped the city’s temperatures into the 20s and kicked up some winds.
Temps will rise a bit over the next few days — into the 30s — Stark said.
But the weather could dramatically shift again on Friday depending on where the looming storm goes, he said.
The city barely saw more than flurries on Sunday and was snow-starved through the holidays.
Last season, New York City braced for a big one in January but accumulated a mere 5 inches instead.
