Prince Harry and American actress and activist Meghan Markle are set to tie the knot on Saturday, 19th May of this year, just one month after Harry’s sister-in-law Kate Middleton is due to welcome her third child. The wedding, set to take place in St. George’s Chaple at Windsor Castle is destined to be on a smaller level than that of Prince William’s, considering also that the capacity of the chapel is no more than 800, unlike the 2000 which Westminster Abbey holds.
However, according to internal sources, this has been the subject of quite a lot of internal controversy over the past weeks.

Sources close to the couple said that the first choice for their honeymoon was Malta, an ex-British colony. The couple chose ‘Villa Guardamangia’, former residence of the now Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. However, the plans were cancelled due to a refusal by the current owner to restore the dilapidated place. The authorities also refused to issue a conservation order. A vote by the British government has also denied funds for security.
Although St. George’s chapel has been the site of many royal weddings, with the latest being that of Harry’s own father, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall in 2005, it does not seem to be a natural choice, with the sources claiming that the lack of adequate amount of seating might create diplomatic difficulties. It is expected that among the attendees, which of course include the entire royal family, will be some of Meghan’s famous friends such as actor and co-star in ‘Suits’ Patrick J. Adams as well as actress Priyanka Chopra. Barak Obama, whose highly-publicised friendship with Prince Harry has been the subject of many headlines, is also expected along with his wife Michelle. The Obamas have already shared their congratulations on Twitter. The latter invitation however has also been the subject of a lot of speculation, sparked by comments posted on social media sites by Markle; who still insists on calling herself an ‘activist’; who is a noted hater of the current United States president Donald Trump.
A former Windsor Castle staffer previously told PEOPLE that the couple will likely hold their reception in the Waterloo Chamber, St. George’s Hall and the Grand Reception Room within the castle.
“The Christmas party is always held there. They’ll hold the wedding reception there, too. It is a well-proven system and arrangement,” the staffer said.
The set of rooms — and the Grand Reception Room in particular — are often the sites of big events, including state dinners that the Queen hosts for visiting foreign heads of state.

Another source of controversy has been the officiator of the wedding. It is in fact still unclear whether the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby; the most senior bishop in the Church of England, will officiate the wedding. British news sources are also considering that fact that Markle is still not baptised; making her ineligible to marry a British royal. A royal statement has clarified that Meghan will be baptised in the church ahead of the nuptials, though.

The public has also been posing a lot of questions regarding the lack of transparency about the cost of the wedding. Although this event will see around 350,000 people journeying in for Harry and Meghan, giving the economy a boost of about $680million, people are still questioning whether this wedding will reach the extravagant costs of £34million reached by that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, £32m of which went toward security. According to CNN, because Windsor is a much smaller town than London, security costs will be less than they were in 2011, when as many as 1million people were estimated to have come out to catch a glimpse of the royal highnesses.

Already, hotels in Windsor and its surroundings are claiming to be fully booked for this wedding.
“Harry has never been one to follow instructions and both he and Meghan are extremely independent individuals,” the source explained last month. “I wouldn’t imagine for one second that they plan to sit back and be told what to do — and they won’t … Their romance feels refreshingly modern and I think that’s something that everyone at Kensington Palace has felt incredibly excited by.”

More details about this subject are expected soon. Meanwhile, we wish the best for Prince Harry and his bride to be Meghan Markle.
