Charlottetown's 2018 Jackie Frost Festival got off to a roaring start with the crowning of the "2018 Ice King" last night. Stratford's Mark MacDougall beat out six other contenders for the crown and will now act as host ambassador for the Festival. Originally declared ineligible for the pageant, Mr. MacDougall had successfully challenged the Festival age limits criteria in court claiming age discrimination. Previously the title was only open to children 8-12 years of age. The court ruling came down just hours before the competition so no other adults had registered. As such Mr. MacDougall easily outmatched his fellow competitors in the Feats of Strength, Donair Eating contest, and 80's Trivia to win his crown. Overcome with emotion after the announcement of his win, Mr. MacDougall's commented "This is every middle-aged man's dream!" Festival organizers later announced they would be dropping the Ice King pageant from all future Festivals.
