After a disappointing 1st quarter & underperforming summer sales slump, Ford Motor Company has announced it's closing of 2 major production facilities located in Louisville, Kentucky by January 3rd, 2019. Employees will have the option to relocate to other facilities nationwide, opt in to early retirement, or utilize unemployment benefits with job placement assistance provided by Ford. CEO Jim Hackett announced that although other options were explored, the only solution would be to close the 2 facilities & downsize in production. The Louisville Facilities are a major component in the F-150 & SUV lines, that will be allocated to the Michigan plant prior to closing the fiscal year.
