Lafayette, Ind: A year-long study on the quality of life among felines determined that "Kittens Count!" The $458,000 grant from Purdue University School of Agriculture allowed students to conduct research on 9,763 cats ranging in age from newborn to senile. Results showed that kittens are just as much of a cat as a fully grown cat. Lead researcher Anette Brown said, "We determined that kittens have four paws, soft fur, a bouncing tail, whiskers and a soft meow." It was this discovery that pushed their research further which led to the discovery of mid-day naps and late-night prowling, consistent with the activities of full-grown cats. "Kittens count, and anyone who tells you different is probably a dog lover," said Benjamin Widdler, a Purdue senior contributing to the advancement of kitten recognition in the barnyard. "Without kittens, we would never have cats," Widdler pointed out. Students and staff agreed that when conducting head counts on your farm, always count the kittens!
