Summerside Boy Attacked By Hungry, Hungry Hippo

A Summerside youth got a rude awakening when he mistook a blue hippo for a water feature at a local splash park. The park had other animal themed water toys and the child was unaware that a real hippopotamus had wandered onto the grounds, all the way from Africa. The boy's mother thought she would capture a fun and memorable experience by directing the child to climb the hippo and take a photo while in the hippo's mouth. That's when trouble struck! The beast bit down and tried to swallow the boy whole. Fortunately, the boy got free from the clutches of the animal by pulling its tongue and twisting its teeth (shown here in the photo) until it finally let go. Remarkably, the child escaped with only a missing tooth. The mother, however isn't getting off as easy as she's used to. She's being charged with child endangerment and animal abuse. A court date has been set for July 7th, 2019. Park Supervisor, Milton Bradley, had no comment on the incident.
