Change of Heart Redirects Demolition Efforts at Old Memorial Hospital

Social Media outcry has changed the hearts of local officials in Palestine, Texas. Their generosity is taking Old Memorial Hospital off the demolition list and placing it in the hands of TxVetShelters, Inc. for renovation into a homeless shelter serving disadvantaged Vietnam Era veterans .
"These valiant men deserve more" said Executive Director Pat Smith. "We're here to do more."
The renovation will be conducted by Texas Department of Criminal Justice Offenders. TDCJ will erect a temporary facility on the Old Memorial site. Work will begin as soon as asbestos abatement is complete.
Mayor Steve Presley shared his excitement upon hearing the good news, "Jack Coleman of Grapeland, Texas was wrong". The Committee of Southside Historic District will celebrate the announcement with a ribbon-cutting.
The proposed name for the facility will be Royall Brazos Veteran's Camp.
