A leaked email from Lytham Donkey Sanctuary has revealed a shocking case where an animal rescued from a house in Bispham had been so badly starved that it had literally eaten it's own front legs.
Jean, a spokesperson for the Donkey Sanctuary said, "Its legs were completely gone. Eaten right off. I've never seen anything like it in the 73 years I've been rescuing these lovable animals." The 47 year old went on to describe how the ravenous animal had tried to bite the rescue wardens as they were releasing the shackles around its remaining 2 legs. She continued, "It's ironic that had the donkey eaten its back legs instead of its front, then it would have been free to escape. Ah well, that's the beauty of donkeys - they're a bit thick."
Police say the owner has been arrested and charged with stupidity. He will appear in court on Tuesday. The donkey will be called as the main witness.
