A Michigan couple was arrested early this morning for swimming across the Detroit River into Windsor, Ontario. Krystal LaValley, 20 years old and Jeffrey Sawka, 21.
Krystal said the reasoning behind them illegally entering Canada was because they don't have passports. They also had their dog Teddy, on a homemade raft tied to Jeff.
When we reached out Krystal stated, " Well, I'm a black woman & Donald Trump won the presidency. Also, I was afraid men were going to start grabbing my.... you know. "
When asked, Jeff said he "needed to protect her, & the best way to do that was to get her out."
They are being detained in Ontario until further notice.
