With the vote on whether to extend the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) right around the corner, some Rome and Floyd County voters might be surprised to learn the outcome has already been decided.
One source, who wished to remain anonymous, says the voting is "just a formality," and that the vote allows local officials to get special interest projects pushed through while claiming it is what the people want.
"Regardless of whether there are more votes for or against the SPLOST, we will just tell the public that it passed. Nobody ever actually follows up on these type of election results. Most people just accept as fact whatever they read on social media or the internet."
