While investigators and marine biologists were searching for the 10ft. Bull Shark and Giant Squid spotted in Geist Reservoir this week a Humpback Whale breached the surface startling spectators and boaters.
Humpback Whales average 40-50ft. in length and weigh up to 79,000 lbs. The whale spotted in Geist was believed to be about 45ft in length. They are not normally found in freshwater lakes. It is believed this whale was once a pet and outgrew it's enclosure. It is illegal to release exotic pets into the wild.
Authorities warn boaters to use caution when on the water until the whale is caught and returned to a more natural and safe habitat.
