**Tokyo, Japan – January 17, 2025** – Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) announced today the creation of the IMX611, a new stacked Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor. This sensor offers a big jump in gesture recognition ability. It works much better than previous models.

The IMX611 sensor uses a special stacked design. This design combines the light-receiving part and the processing circuits efficiently. It achieves an industry-leading resolution. The sensor can capture depth information very accurately. This means it detects hand movements much more precisely.

This high precision is key. It allows the sensor to recognize complex gestures easily. It understands subtle finger movements well. This makes interactions with devices feel smoother. It feels more natural for users. The sensor also performs well in different lighting conditions. It works indoors and outdoors reliably. It handles bright sunlight effectively.

Sony says the IMX611 is about ten times better than its older sensors. It captures more data points. This leads to significantly improved gesture recognition. The sensor is also small. This makes it easy to integrate into various products.

Potential applications are wide-ranging. The sensor suits consumer electronics perfectly. Think smartphones, tablets, AR/VR headsets. It can also be used in industrial settings. Robotics and factory automation can benefit. Automotive systems might use it too. The improved gesture control could enhance car infotainment safely.

“Gesture recognition is becoming vital for user interfaces,” said Kenji Nakano, Senior General Manager at SSS. “Our new IMX611 sensor sets a new standard. It delivers unmatched accuracy and reliability. We expect it to drive innovation across many industries.”

Sony is now sampling the IMX611 sensor to key customers. Mass production is planned for later this year. Pricing details are available upon request.
