Mexico forfeits to Germany - cites religious reasons

The soccer team of Mexico decided to forfeit a game against Germany rather than play a team that included citing religious beliefs.
Mexico chose to forfeit rather than face Germany, whose team has two female players. The rationale, according to comments from Goalie Rodolfo Cota , is that sports just aren’t the place for things like equality and honor:
“I know it appears to fly in the face of what everyone is wanting to promote today, and that is equality. It is based on a religious perspective that God created guys and girls differently.... We want to teach our men that honor of ladies is just not in sports.”
Germany does not have a separate girls team. They benched their two female players in a game earlier this season where the opponent refused to play against girls, but this time voted to play with the girls or not at all.
Germany will advance to the Confederations Cup final at Mexico's expense on Thursday.
In 10 previous meetings, Mexico have just one win, in 1985.
The teams have played three times at World Cups and 12 years ago in the 2005 Confed Cup.
That game was a third-place play-off which went to extra time and was decided by Michael Ballack's 97th-minute goal.
Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio dismissed the fact that Germany's youthful exuberance could be advantageous.
