A Boston man learned yesterday that you best not make nasty comments about local Boston music icons New Kids on the Block. At 3:30 pm yesterday, in Mike "Mackie Mac" McKenzie's pub in Southtown, Boston, the crowded bar was filled with the usual group of day-drinkers. We talked to two men that witnessed the scuffle that later ensued. But first, some background on why NKOTB are revered in the Boston scene. They started in 1984 as a boy band, toured for ten years with massive album sales. Broke up and then got back together in 2007 and are still touring. Keep in mind that an original member was Mark Wahlberg, maker of the greatest movies on this or any other planet, such a star that his name comes up on spell check. The tale as told by two men, Johnny "speed mumble" Johnson and Harry "cheap beer" Smith. It turns out everyone in Boston has some sort of nickname. We'll refer to them as Sm and Cb. We had to translate sm's.
Cb; there's a young lady that does that MMA stuff in the gym across the street and fights in the octapus ring.
Sm; that's octagon, idiot. She's wicked short and little, but she's mean.
CB; yeah, she's got degrees of black belt and things, "fat lip" (we didn't ask) told us she's got every degree except one from middle school. So she comes in and she's wearing a tee shirt from a NKOTB concert last week.
Sm; so "Short" (who is actually almost 7 feet tall and about 350 pounds) thinks he'll go and shine her a little bit about it.
CB; everybody kind of leaves her alone when she comes in, cause she gets paid to beat up people and you don't need that kind of grief.
Sm; no, not at all. Next thing we knew, she had jumped up on his head and was trying to pull his ears off.
CB; he couldn't get her off. I think she used the Crane teachings from the karate kid movie.
Sm; that was a good movie
Cb; yeah it was. So one ear is about to come loose and "Mackie Mac" yells at her to leave him be, because he might need that ear sometime.
Sm; and "short" says "what?"
Cb; that was wicked funny. She lets go and leaves before the police came and "short" goes to the hospital with half his ear hanging off.
Sm; I bet he don't tell them how that happened
Cb; nope
The moral of the story is do not mess with a NKOTB fan in Boston.
