Citing creative differences over the dark tone of the film, Kathleen Kennedy announced that long-time friend and former owner of LucasFilm would be finishing edits on the upcoming Star Wars saga film. "We, as a creative team, felt that Rian didn't full grasp Luke Skywalker's character arc. His design aesthetic skewed toward darker, more morally relativistic themes that are not in keeping with the good vs. evil struggle at the heart of all Star Wars films."
