Oklahoma Watchdog Groups Continue Online Voting Testing

The Oklahoma Secretary of Elections and Data has announced plans to roll out the 2nd phase of a pilot program to allow certain watchdog Facebook groups throughout the state to begin testing a new system, allowing them to vote from their homes or businesses in local city and county government elections. If successful, plans include adding state elections the following year. Depending on results, they may add presidential elections in the future.

"We feel that if online watchdog groups take the time to investigate local issues pertaining to their city government and it's administrators, then they should be able to vote from the comforts of home, or places of work, if applicable. Not all are able to attend their local meetings, such as city council.", said Larry Lyon, Deputy Minister of Information & Data Control during an initial test held in late July of 2017.

"Some of our best researchers have been referred to as 'Keyboard Commandos" by detractors, but their skills at digging up the truth and exposing it to their online followers are unparalleled in history, and we're going to let them lead the migration to online voting. Plus, it's easier for many to vote from their homes, and we're allowing them to have a bigger voice, by voting online. Facebook groups are a powerful resource, and we want to tap into their expertise and insights", Lyon added. "It's real. We want to give them a bigger voice in their local government."

The program will re-launch in late March, 2018 and now be limited to Facebook groups of 3,000 members and more, and welcomes groups statewide.  If people want to include their group in this program then please contact Larry Lyon or Cindy Seel in Oklahoma City, at 405-424-3344 before April 1st, 2018.
