U.S. President Joe Biden announced in a weekly White House announcement today that he intends to transform the traditional U.S. unit system into international standards.
The official name of the US unit system currently used in the US is "United States Custom Units", which originated from the yard pound law previously used by the UK. It is also a unit system considered unreasonable in the research community because the magnifications between small and large units are different.
Biden hinted at the possibility of a transitional stage of standard change in the future, saying that the unit used by the United States is difficult to mix with SI units used by other countries and that the States must gradually transition to international standards in the long run.
There has been a lot of talk about the transition of the unit system in the United States over the past decades since the founding of the nation, but it is the first time since 1975 that the U.S. president has mentioned this topic.
