Oakland, CA: There's been an awful lot of heat thrown in Derek Carr's direction following the signing of a fresh, new lucrative contract.
He’s the highest-paid player in NFL history, and the first thing Derek Carr is going to do with the $125 million from his contract extension with the Oakland Raiders is pay his tithing, reported SB Nation.
"The first thing I'll do is pay my tithe like I have since I was in college," Carr told CBS Sports. The good Samaritan has been praised by the public, but his actions are drawing a different reaction in Raiders camp.
"We made sacrifices at the request of (Carr's) agent. And Carr turns around and just gives it away. We could have used that money to bring more players in, retain others. But now, that money is going straight to a religious hobby." complained Reggie McKenzie, Raiders general manager.
"Classic Raiders. Always finding new ways to shoot themselves in the foot." remarked ex-Raiders Defensive tackle Stacy McGee. "That team just can't do anything right."
The fury extends all the way to the top, as owner Mark Davis vented to ESPN on Tuesday, "We should have been more conservative with our offer. It was a bad decision for the team, and that's on me. What a waste of resources."
