Confirmation bias is a human condition. We are ALL susceptible. This attention grabbing headline was created to recognize the existence of fake news and lead to a discussion of how ones own confirmation bias will cause someone to believe something entirely made up. Just because it fits into your predetermined narrative, just because you WANT to believe it, does not make it TRUE.

Always check your sources, try your best to ignore your own bias, and understand the concept of using news and life events to create a misleading narrative. Even if something is based on an actual event, there is always more than one side to every story.

Critical thinking is the only thing that will move us beyond this ridiculous point in our history, where people actually believe in things like "a global flat earth conspiracy."

Just because a headline makes you and your friends feel vindicated in your convictions, does not make it actual fact. Sometimes you and your friends are wrong. Understand this and accept it. Never be too proud to admit perhaps you have been had, and perhaps you were wrong about something. Always allow your own stance to evolve as new LEGITIMATE facts come to light.

Education, critical thought and overcoming one's own confirmation bias, may be our last chance at survival and redemption.
